Crushing Fresh Tomatoes

We all experience times and places where we find ourselves amongst the dissenters. Like the brave soul decked out in Yankee’s gear at Fenway Park, or the literature fanatic who could never find in their heart for Shakespeare, being the odd-man-out is an unsettling and often baffling sensation.

For me, I often find myself in the shallow end of the pool when it comes to many popular films. Is it because I’m naturally skeptical of anything that achieves widespread mainstream attention? Maybe. But I think it’s moreso that it in my honest opinion based the analysis my brain provided, certain movies just fail to satisfy.

Roger Ebert didn’t like “To Kill A Mockingbird” and Gene Siskel wasn’t a fan of “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.” Their reasoning on both accounts is pretty sound.

So it is here in this series, which I call Crushing Fresh Tomatoes, I will attempt to dissect films that are critically acclaimed and culturally beloved, exposing their shoddy storytelling, flaccid performances and errors in judgment.
